Jul 28, 11:24 PM

For over a thousand years the Pyramids, the Sphinx, the Mummies, and the Pharaohs have fascinated the world with their mystery and wonder. The mystery of exactly how the Pyramids were built is a never-ending debate among scholars, scientists, historians and construction experts.

How could these magnificent structures have been built without modern methods? And the strange Sphinx with the body of a lion and the head of a woman, just what is the meaning of it? The airport at the capital city of Cairo, home to over 16 million people, is the main arrival point.

As the cradle of one of oldest civilizations in the world, Egypt Holidays will continue to attract hordes of tourists to gaze at this treasure trove of historic sites. Egypt occupies a strategic location at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea where the mouth of the Nile river, the longest river in the world, is located.

It is here at the Nile delta where the ancient city of Alexandria was built, and where the remains of the oldest lighthouse in the world were found. Because of it’s coveted treasures and location, ancient Egypt had a long association with the Greek and Roman empires. In modern times Egypt was part of the British colonial empire, thus English is widely spoken.

A tour of medieval Cairo can be bewildering but should not be missed. The nearby Egyptian museum displays over 120,000 artifacts covering the long history of this fascinating country. Taking a cruise along the Egyptian stretch of the Nile river aboard an ancient Felucca sailboat has long been a favourite tourist activity.
In Thebes is the Valley of the Kings where the pharaohs were buried, and nearby is the city of Luxor with its own imposing temple in the center.

Luxor is on the Nile river in southern Egypt. Also near Luxor are the temples of Karnak which represent every god and goddess of antiquity. Farther south after the city of Aswan is Abu Simber, the site of two temples built for pharaoh Rameses II near the Sudan border. Hurghada is a growing resort on the Red Sea coast where water sports are popular.

In the western desert is the Siwa oasis, home of a distinct ancient Berber culture with it’s own language. Enjoy a memorable stay in Egypt.
